Why did you become a Student Ambassador?
I became a student ambassador because I love this University and everything that it stands to do. UTD is an institution dedicated to improving the lives of its students, the community, and the world at large–And in this program, we help facilitate that mission. Working with faculty, industry leaders, world-class research, and members of the wider Dallas, Texas, and global community has been an incredible opportunity, and I’m glad to see the work we do translate into growth and opportunity at every turn.

Campus Involvement: I do a lot of research. Here at UTD, that’s with the Pain Neurobiology Group where I do integrating sequencing analysis and other computational tasks. I also lead a team at the Scottish Rite Hospital for Children developing automated tools for medical imaging and histology, and we’ve gotten a few friends here from UTD to join in the fun. I’m also a member of the Transfer Mentors Program, a group that helps enliven the transfer student experience. Lastly, I love the work I do with the Exercise Physiology Working Group. There’s bout 20 of us, and we’re writing a textbook, developing a website and digital course platform, and integrating the research we conduct on our methods in addition to the workshops we run to improve student performance in a challenging course beloved by many premeds here at UTD.

What has surprised you most about yourself since starting at UTD?
There’s so much opportunity here. Everywhere you look, professors ready and willing to involve you in cutting edge research. Or a business is blossoming across the disciplines. Maybe there’s an arts expo visiting. Perhaps you’re looking to take dance classes, or attend a seminar with a Nobel Laureate? Maybe you just want to go to class, get your degree, and get a good job. Great, it’s all here.

Favorite UTD Tradition: I love Oozeball! It’s a great, grimy party.

Interesting Fact About This Ambassador: I don’t think it’s possible to spend too much time at the gym.
